Malaysia’s Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng, has announced that the administration of newly-elected prime minister Mahathir Mohamad will move ahead with plans to build the $13.8 billion East Coast Rail Line, a Chinese-funded project linking Malaysia's biggest port to the border with Thailand. According to Lim, a substantial payment was made by the previous administration to fund the ECRL, making cancellation too costly.
