What Role for the United States?

China’s Belt and Road Initiative could play a mighty role in meeting infrastructure needs in Southeast Asia if it is done right. But so far Beijing has said little about what it envisions the impact of its projects to be. Meanwhile, Washington doesn’t have a grand vision about how the United States could become involved in Southeast Asian infrastructure. This report highlights recommendations on how the U.S. might effectively engage these issues in the region.
