Maitree Super Thermal Power Project

This $1.49 billion coal-fired plant is not slated to complete until late-2019, but it has already been at the center of several controversies. Concerns have been raised by a number of environmental groups about the potential destruction of the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forests, in addition to the possible displacement of local inhabitants residing in the area.
