Description
The Hairatan to Mazar-e-Sharif Railway Project links Afghanistan's northern Balkh Province to the Uzbekistan border, where it connects with Uzbekistan's railway network. Operated by the state-owned Uzbekistan Railways (Uzbek Temir Yollari), the Hairatan to Mazar-e-Sharif railway is only one of two railways ever built in Afghanistan, the first of which was constructed nearly a century ago in the early 1920s.
