Description

Officials between the government of Macedonia and the EXIM Bank of China signed a loan agreement on November 26, 2013 wherein a loan would be provided to pay for 10 percent of a new motorway project in Macedonia. On March 22, 2014, construction of the Kicevo-Ohrid Highway began, which will measure 56.7 km long, and was expected to be completed in 2018. The construction of the 53 km Miladinovci-Stip motorway is expected to be completed in May 2017. The project encountered delays in 2017 and, following a change in government, was blocked by the Ministry of Transport and Communication after allegations of losses to the state budget.

The project price increased by 180,000,000 EUR and received additional financing from the Export-Import Bank of China in 2019.
