India's first high speed rail project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor is a proposed 508 km long railway that will reduce travel time between the cities of Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just over 2 hours, as opposed to 7-8 hours at present. Japan will be providing a sizeable low interest loan as well as technical know-how ("shikansen") for this project that is being touted as a hallmark of India-Japan friendship.
