In April 2017, 40km of National Road No. 6A officially opened to traffic. The road connects Prek Leap commune in Phnom Penh’s Chroy Changvar district to the junction of Kompong Cham’s Batheay district.
“National Road 6A is in fact one of the busiest roads in Cambodia and this section of the road connects Phnom Penh to various provinces through Kandal to the border with Thailand […],”Samdech Prime Minister Hun Sen said at the grand opening of the road on 6 April, “We have decided to build up this road to help with the settlement of our people in this part of the city.”
